CARTER MACHINERY HOSTS VISIT FROM VIRGINIA GOVERNOR GLENN YOUNGKIN
Tax relief, jobsites, and a trained workforce touted as keys to competing with neighboring states for business
SALEM, VA – Jan 5, 2023. Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin visited Carter Machinery’s newly opened Machine Rebuild Center in Salem Thursday where he was joined by local business and political leaders, as well as hundreds of Carter team members. They heard him discuss his plans and actions aimed at reducing taxes and increasing the Commonwealth’s competitiveness when it comes to attracting new businesses and jobs to Virginia.
Focusing on the themes that Virginia must “compete to win” and that it was time to “press the accelerator,” the Governor focused on proposed tax relief for individuals and businesses in the budget he recently presented to Virginia’s General Assembly, and cited the importance of having “shovel-ready” mega sites ready for businesses looking to expand or relocate to the Commonwealth.
Carter Machinery President John Batzel joined the Governor on stage, and in his welcoming comments reflected on the company’s strong jobs growth in 2022 that saw 400-plus team members join the company, and highlighted Carter’s industry-leading and award-winning apprenticeship program that trains new workers for rewarding careers as diesel technicians.
Governor Youngkin shared that going forward, he wants “made in America” to mean “made in Virginia,” and that when Virginia competes for business investments with other southern states – including neighboring North Carolina and Tennessee – he wants Virginia to “win every time.”
“On behalf of Carter Machinery’s 2,500-plus team members, it was truly our honor to host the Governor, his staff, local and regional political and business leaders, as well as family and friends,” Batzel said. “Carter Machinery certainly understands the importance of a skilled, well-trained, committed workforce because our people are the key to the company’s success, and more importantly, to our customers’ success. We thank the Governor for sharing his time, his plans, and his excitement today for growing business and jobs in Virginia.”
